CHP Officer Fixes Traffic Ticket For SexMarch 24, 2009SAN DIEGO -- A California Highway Patrol officer was accused Tuesday of dismissing a traffic ticket in exchange for sexual favors, we reported. According to a release from the San Diego County District Attorney's Office, CHP officer Abram Carabajal, of Oceanside, is charged with three felony counts, including perjury, conspiracy to obstruct justice and accepting a bribe. Authorities said the 51-year-old Carabajal cited Shirin Zarrindej, 47, for speeding on March 12, 2008. The officer and Zarrindej allegedly began communicating after the citation, developed a relationship and conspired to commit perjury and bribery. According to a release from the district attorney's office, Zarrindej pleaded not guilty to the speeding violation causing a subpoena to be issued to Carabajal for the court trial. But in court on July 1, 2008, Carabajal testified under oath that he had not been served the supboena, leading the court to dismiss the case against Zarrindej, the release said. According to the district attorney's office, that same day, right after the court appearance, Carabajal and Zarrindej met at the Guesthouse Inn in Oceanside and were observed walking arm-in-arm to a hotel room. Zarrindej later told investigators she had sex with Carabajal in the room, the release said. Zarrindej was charged with three felony counts including perjury, conspiracy to obstruct justice and offering a bribe. Carabajal is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Tuesday in Department 14 of Superior Court in Vista at 1:30 p.m. Zarrindej will be arraigned in Vista on April 13.
