Anthony Torian Gets 14 Years in Prison for Murder of Two TeenagersMarch 13, 2009TAGS: Anthony Torian, Criminal Defense, San Diego News, Local News, Murder Today a man responsible for his involvement in the murder of two teenagers in southeastern San Diego was sentenced to serve 14 years in jail for manslaughter. The crime took place over two years ago. Anthony Louis Torian, 23, pleaded guilty to both counts of voluntary manslaughter in the murder of Brandon Hammond and Marcelles McElvaine, both 19. Torian shot both teenagers on Dec. 6, 2006, while in a cul-de-sac located in Bay Terraces. Prosecutors fought against the charges in San Diego Superior Court earlier, stating that Torian and the other suspect, Deshawn Broadnax, were involved with a gang and were shooting the teenagers in response to another killing that took place the day before. Deputy District Attorney Mark Amador returned the argument with the fact that the two victims were not affiliated with any gang and there was no evidence to suggest that they were a part of the death of Ahmad Lewis, 19. Anthony Torian, who prosecutors argue was the getaway driver, testified at Broadnax’s trial. He blamed Broadnax saying that he talked him into driving to the Meadowbrook apartment complex on Paradise Valley Road, located in their rival gang territory. He stated that he watched as Broadnax disappeared around the corner and then he heard the firing of a gun. Broadnax raced back to the car and then they drove away. During the trial last December, the jury declared Broadnax, 22, guilty on two counts of first-degree murder and various other charges. Last month, the jury sentenced him to life in prison with no hope of parole. His attorney plans to appeal. Finally justice has been done. I'm sure Anthony Torian is starting to regret his crime by now. Return to San Diego Local News Roundup |
