5 Arrested In North County Gang SweepMarch 16, 2009SAN DIEGO -- Five people were arrested and three more were cited over the weekend during a sweep that targeted gang members living in unincorporated North County, a sheriff's sergeant said. The arrests were made in unincorporated parts of Escondido and San Marcos on Saturday, San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Glenn Giannantonio said. Throughout the sweep, deputies checked in on gang members on probation and parole. One of those arrested was a juvenile who was booked into Juvenile Hall for drug-related offenses and violating the terms of his probation, Giannantonio said. "With the implementation of gang injunctions and increased gang enforcement by law enforcement within the incorporated cities of the county, there has been an increase in the number of gang members moving into the unincorporated areas of the county," Giannantonio said. No other details regarding those arrested were immediately released. 5 less gang members on the streets is certainly a positive development. Return to San Diego Local News Roundup |
