Chase ends with suspects ramming parked pickupMarch 12, 2009CARLSBAD: A wild police chase through Carlsbad ended yesterday afternoon when the suspect slammed into a parked pickup, causing the truck to flip, police said. Carlsbad police tried to stop the driver of a Toyota Camry on Interstate 5 at Tamarack Avenue shortly before 2 p.m. for a vehicle code violation, but the car sped off, police said. The chase continued south on the freeway, with the driver exiting at Poinsettia Lane and then heading north on I-5 at about 90 mph. The occupants pitched objects out the windows before exiting again at Tamarack, where they rammed a police car. The Camry continued into a neighborhood and tried to run over a motorcycle officer, police said. The pursuit ended when officers used a driving maneuver that caused the Camry to hit a Ford Ranger parked on Madison Street. The pickup rolled onto its side. Two men, ages 32 and 40, ran from the crash but were soon caught. Officers recovered several syringes and a broken scale from the freeway. Both men were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, fleeing from police, drug violations and outstanding felony warrants. No injuries were reported. Hopefully no one in the neighborhood was injured by the actions of this reckless criminal. Return to San Diego Local News Roundup |
