Cashier Thwarts Armed Robbery By Walking AwayMarch 17,,2009SAN DIEGO -- A cashier at a Mexican fast food restaurant thwarted an attempted armed robbery by simply walking away from her glass-enclosed pick-up window, authorities said Tuesday. The failed holdup occurred around 8:30 a.m. Monday at Adalberto's Mexican Food at 2498 Market Street in the Sherman Heights area, police said. The primary suspect was a woman in a dark hooded jacket who went through the drive-through line of Adalberto's and ordered food, said San Diego police Sgt. Art Campa. When her van was alongside the cashier's window, she "brandished a black handgun at the cashier and demanded money," Campa said. The cashier responded by walking away and not returning, he said. The woman then slid over to the passenger's seat in the van she had been driving as her male accomplice moved from the rear of the vehicle and into the driver's seat and drove off, Campa said. The green-colored van may have been a Ford Windstar, according to police. The suspects fled eastbound on Market Street and turned north onto 25th Street, Campa said.
