Murder Warrant Issued In Party SlayingMarch 18, 2009SAN DIEGO -- The name and photograph of a teenager accused of fatally shooting a 21-year-old woman at an Encanto birthday party were released Wednesday as her mother publicly pleaded for the suspect to turn himself in. An arrest warrant for murder has been issued for Christopher Anthony Sanchez, 19, who allegedly shot Marcella Peraza and an unidentified man after a fight broke out around 2:30 a.m. on March 7 at a birthday party at the 6800 block of Brooklyn Avenue, said San Diego police Lt. Terry McManus. Both were taken to a hospital where Peraza died hours later. The male victim was struck in the left arm and underwent extensive emergency surgery, McManus said. His condition was not available. Peraza's mother made a public plea at a news conference Wednesday in front of her San Diego home for Sanchez to turn himself in. Lisa Ortiz, who was accompanied by Pastor Miles McPherson of the Rock Church, also said that, as a Christian, she has forgiven the man accused of killing her only daughter. Upon hearing rumors of a retaliation against the shooter, Ortiz also asked that his life be spared. Sanchez is described as 6 feet tall, about 190 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He is known to frequent the Lemon Grove and Encanto areas. Police are asking anyone with any information about Sanchez's whereabouts to call San Diego Police Department communications at (619) 531-2000; the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293; or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
