Chula Vista Chase Ends With Crash Into HomeMarch 22, 2009CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- A 30-year-old man suspected of drunken driving led officers Monday on a high-speed chase that ended with his pickup truck barreling into a Chula Vista home, leaving him injured and under arrest, police said. David Garcia of Imperial Beach was driving a full-sized Chevy pickup when he was stopped for a traffic violation in the 200 block of Quintard Street around 2:15 a.m., according to Chula Vista police spokesman Bernard Gonzales. As officers were walking up to his truck, Garcia, who is on probation for a previous DUI conviction, fled at a high speed, Gonzales said. A chase ensued, ending in the 1200 block of Tobias Avenue, where Garcia's truck crashed into a residence, Gonzales said. Garcia was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and taken a hospital for treatment of moderate injuries, according to Gonzales, who said the residence sustained major damage. The home's residents were home at the time of the crash but none was hurt, Gonzales said. In addition to DUI, Garcia faces reckless driving and failure to obey law enforcement authority charges, according to Gonzales. Return to San Diego Local News Roundup |
