U.S. Coast Guard, Mexican Navy Seize Boat, Marijuana
March 22, 2009SAN DIEGO -- The U.S. Coast Guard and Mexican Navy seized a smuggling boat and 16,000 pounds of marijuana valued at $15 million.
Authorities said Sunday that four suspected smugglers were in custody after the Thursday bust in international waters off the coast of Mexico.
A Coast Guard patrol aircraft detected a suspicious vessel and the Coast Guard sent an interceptor boat to investigate. The smugglers tried to flee, but the Coast Guard crew was able to stop the vessel and took the crew into custody.
A Mexican Navy patrol boat responded to the scene. Mexican authorities took custody of the suspected smugglers.
