Man Killed by Police was Jeromiah Paul DavisMarch 30, 2009EL CAJON, Calif. -- A man fatally shot by El Cajon police while waving a big knife Friday was identified Sunday as a a 32-year-old El Cajon resident. The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office said it was Jeromiah Paul Davis who led officers on a mile-long foot chase up the steep incline of Avocado Boulevard. El Cajon police got a report of of a man with a knife near Chase Avenue and Avocado Boulevard about 11:50 a.m. Friday and arrived to find a man in fatigue pants waving around a Bowie-style knife. Police chased the man along Avocado to Horizon Hills Drive, where they ordered him to drop the knife, then fired two beanbag rounds at him, according to police and published reports. Officers also used a Taser on the man, but he held onto the knife, police said. After running some more, officers fired two more beanbag rounds at him. By the time he reached the intersection of Avocado and Fuerte Drive, just outside of El Cajon city limits, he had been hit eight times, to no effect, police said. When the man raised the knife and charged at the officers, four of them opened fire, police said. Davis died at the scene. The coroner's reported listed the cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds.
