Man Rescued After Falling Into 100-Foot RavineMarch 16, 2009SAN DIEGO -- Emergency crews used a helicopter to hoist a man believed to be an illegal immigrant out of a roughly 100-foot-deep ravine he fell into near the U.S.-Mexico border Monday, authorities reported. Border Patrol personnel notified the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department about the fall near the intersection of Hollister Street and Monument Road in Tijuana River Valley about 4:30 p.m., department spokesman Maurice Luque said. The helicopter crew lowered a firefighter into the gully on a rope, then pulled both men out and set them down on a nearby dirt road. The man who fell into the ravine was able to stand and walk on his own after being rescued, Luque said. Return to San Diego Local News Roundup |
