Furniture Store Owner Accused Of Ripping Off CustomersMarch 24, 2009SAN DIEGO -- A woman is accusing a Miramar furniture store of stealing money, and she wants other customers to know what's going on. Mary Vega said she returned some furniture to European Design Furniture and asked for her money back. Instead, Vega said the owner of the store will not give the money back. "You're lying to me and you've lied to me. Don't play me for a fool. You met the wrong person," Vega said in a phone conversation with furniture store owner Marianna Petrosiants. Vega said she bought bedroom furniture, but what was delivered was not what she ordered. "The headboard was orange and the nightstands were brown. They didn't even match," said Vega. Vega returned the furniture and asked for her $2,400 back, and that was a month ago. Petrosiants has not paid the money back, Vega said. "It's always tomorrow, next week; one excuse after another," said Vega. Vega has taken to passing out fliers outside of the furniture store that say Petrosiants ripped her off. "I don't want to deal with her anymore. I want to dissolve all business relationships with her," said Vega. Vega has filed a complaint with the district attorney's office and the Better Business Bureau. The BBB currently gives European Design Furniture an "F" grade. At the store, an open sign was displayed but no one was in the store. Vega called the number listed on the window, and Petrosiants answered. "I'm standing in front of your store with 10News right now," Vega said to Petrosiants. "No, you're lying. You're lying. You're a liar. You come down here right now and pay me," said Vega. 10News tried to contact Petrosiants, but she refused to talk. Petrosiants' attorney called 10News and said his client would refund Vega's money by the end of the month. The attorney added that the store had only received three complaints in 6 years. However, Petrosiants has been listed as a defendant in six small claims court cases since 2002, and Vega thinks others have been ripped off, too. "I'm mad. I'm frustrated. I don't want anybody else to go through this," said Vega. Last Friday, a small claims court judge ruled in favor of another one of Petrosiants' customers. That customer said she bought some chairs in October but never received them. The judge ordered Petrosiants to refund $3,250. The Better Business Bureau assigns reatings by evaluating several categories, including: # # The number of complaints from a businesses' customers # Whether the business has responded to those complaints Whether those complaints were resolved in a timely manner If a business fails to respond to even one complaint, they are assigned an "F" rating.
