Birthday Celebrant Found Dead In Resort Hot TubApril 1, 2009Man Had Just Turned 21 Years Old SAN DIEGO -- A man was found dead in a hot tub at a Mission Bay resort Tuesday morning, and police said the death appears to be accidental. The body of 21-year-old Michael David Mayfield was found at Paradise Point Resort, 1404 Vacation Road, about 5:30 a.m., San Diego police said. According to Marissa Cabrera, Mayfield was celebrating his 21st birthday with three friends. SDPD Lt. Karen Tenney told reporters that the men "celebrated by drinking some alcohol." The men rented a room at the resort, and the group went into the hot tub in the early morning and soaked for a time before three of them went back to their room, leaving Mayfield in the Jacuzzi, said police. When the friends returned, they found Mayfield floating face-down in the spa about 5:30 a.m., according to San Diego police. "And they went back to check on him, and they found him floating in the Jacuzzi," the lieutenant said. Medics tried in vain to revive Mayfield before pronouncing him dead at the scene. Police said they found bottles of alcohol in the room, and they are interviewing the three friends regarding the incident. There were some scrapes on the Mayfield's face, but it was unclear if the injuries had anything to do with his death, according to Tenney. An autopsy was pending.
