Man Struck, Killed On Northbound I-15 In Poway

SAN DIEGO -- A Vista man who was standing next to his car alongside Interstate 15 in Sabre Springs was struck and killed Wednesday by a passing vehicle, authorities said.
Raymundo Ambrosio-Vasquez, 53, pulled over on the right-hand side of the freeway near Poway Road without turning on his emergency lights and got out of his white Toyota Tercel about 5 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol and county Medical Examiner's Office.
A short time later, an Acura that had just entered the freeway hit Ambrosio-Vasquez, killing him at the scene.
The driver of the Acura stopped and called 911, officials said.
The fatal accident forced the closure of several freeway lanes and a nearby onramp for about 90 minutes, resulting in heavier-than-usual morning traffic in the area.
It was not immediately clear why Ambrosio-Vasquez pulled over alongside the interstate.
