2 Men Catch Toddler After 40-Foot FallMarch 30, 2009![]() Child Uninjured During Fall LAWRENCE, Mass. -- Two Massachusetts men are being hailed as heroes by police for catching a toddler who fell 40 feet from a home's third-story window. Caliah Clark fell 40 feet after her siblings could not hang onto her. Robert Lemire, 45, said he was talking on his cell phone on Sunday evening near a pizza shop when he saw a toddler hanging from a window. "I was trying to dial 911 and not take my eyes off her," Lemire said. Alex Day, 23, heard Lemire's calls for help and also ran to the child's aid. "It was like two guys going for a football. We just hoped we didn't drop her," said Lemire. Day and Lemire first saw toys falling out the window, then the girl's siblings trying to hang on to her. "As soon as I got underneath her she was down," Day said. Together, the men caught 18-month-old Caliah Clark before she hit the ground. The girl's father and mother thanked the two when they returned home from the hospital. The child did not suffer any serious injuries, but was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Police Chief John Romero said, "These guys are heroes, no question about it." Return to San Diego Local News Roundup |
