Officials say the Wild Animal Park has hatched 150 California condors since breeding of the critically endangered species began 27 years ago. The California condor was near extinction in the 1980s, when the world population of the species hit a low of 22. There are now more than 300 of the giant vultures, more than half of which have been released into the wild. Return to San Diego Local News Roundup |
