Alleged Teen Victim: She Loves Accused CoachMarch 26, 2009Steven Antony, 38, Faces Multiple Felony Charges VISTA, Calif. -- A local volleyball coach charged with molesting three of his players is receiving support from one of the alleged victims and her family, we reported. Steven Antony is charged with 16 counts of various sexual crimes. Antony was a coach at San Pasqual High School in Escondido, and none of his alleged victims attended that school. We received permission from the 17-year-old girl's mother to interview her daughter, and both mother and teen said Antony is a great man despite the allegations. "I'm not happy; this isn't what I wanted," the girl told us. The family said they never wanted to prosecute. "I didn't want to testify. I did everything so I didn't have to … the detective made it seem like I had to, and to my mom Steve is a great guy. I love him and I don't want anything to happen to him," said the girl. Antony, 38, is charged with having sex with three teenage girls. The first relationship happened in 1996, when he was 22. The most recent was this past summer -- with the teenager defending him. The girl testified in court that she and Antony had sex at her home and his Carlsbad apartment on several different occasions. "My thoughts on it are age doesn't matter. If you love someone, you love someone," said the girl. If convicted, Antony faces a minimum of three years in prison. Steven Antony is no doubt grateful for the support of this one girl, though it is questionable how much it will help his case. Return to San Diego Local News Roundup |
